Paint Driers

Manage the drying process of each layer of alkyd paint coatings!

İlkalem offers surface, through and auxiliary driers under the ProDry brand to improve drying times and aid in color development for solvent-based alkyd paints.

We meticulously produce various types of single and composite driers with different metal percentages, solvents, and acid types to meet the needs of the market. Our technical team will assist you in determining the correct metal ratio, and quantity for your products.

Surface Driers

Surface driers, also referred to as primary driers, are oxidation catalysts. The most commonly used metals in surface driers are cobalt, manganese, and iron.

Through Driers

Through driers ensure uniform and complete drying throughout the entire film by facilitating the proper spreading of primary driers towards all layers of the paint. They are used in conjunction with other driers such as cobalt and calcium, providing hardness and durability to the entire film.

Auxilary Driers

Various auxiliary driers may be required for each paint formulation to fulfill the functions of driers. Depending on factors such as paint composition, application area, and environmental conditions, different types and amounts of driers can be used.

ProDry Mixed Driers

İlkalem offers alternative drying agent mixtures containing various drying agents tailored to the formulations of its business partners based on incoming requests.

ProDry Cobalt Cobalt-based driers are the most effective and active surface driers
Cobalt-based driers are the most effective and active surface driers. They promote rapid surface drying in solvent-based paints and can be used either in conjunction with other auxiliary driers or as a standalone drier.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Cobalt 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 1 WS, D60, Toluene
ProDry Cobalt NEO 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 1 WS, D60, Toluene
ProDry Manganese Manganese-based driers, with their moderate level of activity, are primary oxidative driers that facilitate both surface and through drying.
Manganese-based driers, with their moderate level of activity, are primary oxidative driers that facilitate both surface and through drying. The high-viscosity red-brown shades of the manganese series can be used as an alternative to cobalt driers, especially in ink applications.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Manganese 10, 8, 6 WS, D60, SME
ProDry Iron Iron-based driers are preferred more in oven-drying systems compared to air-drying alkyd paint systems.
Iron-based driers are preferred more in oven-drying systems compared to air-drying alkyd paint systems. They are also used as dryers in ink paints.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Iron 10, 8, 6 WS, D60, SME
ProDry Lead High-viscosity, light yellow lead-based driers are known as the most effective through driers.
High-viscosity, light yellow lead-based driers are known as the most effective through driers. They enhance the long-term durability and flexibility of the paint film, providing optimum performance even under challenging conditions. They are suitable for use with cobalt, calcium, and other driers.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Lead 36, 33, 32, 30, 24, 15 WS
ProDry Zirconium Zirconium-based drying agents are the most effective through driers known after lead-based driers.
Zirconium-based drying agents are the most effective through driers known after lead-based driers. Zirconium-based driers are high-performance through driers developed in response to restrictions imposed on lead-based driers due to their environmental impacts. They are particularly preferred in white paints for their lighter color and reduced yellowing effect. They are used in conjunction with cobalt, calcium, and other drying agents.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Zirconium 24, 18, 12 WS, D60
ProDry Zirconium NEO 18, 12 WS, D60
ProDry Strontium Strontium-based driers are preferred as alternatives to lead-based drying agents.
Strontium-based driers are preferred as alternatives to lead-based drying agents. The increasingly widespread use of strontium-based drying agents has been found to exhibit better pigment wetting properties in certain paint systems.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Strontium N 10 WS, D60
ProDry Calcium Calcium-based drying agents are the best auxiliary drying agents known to enhance the drying system's effectiveness against fillers within paint systems and increase dispersion properties.
Calcium-based drying agents are the best auxiliary drying agents known to enhance the drying system’s effectiveness against fillers within paint systems and increase dispersion properties. In systems containing fillers where these drying agents are not used, drying agents may not perform equally well in every layer of the film. They also have an important role in preventing performance loss, also known as ‘loss of dry,’ which can occur due to the waiting time of paint. Calcium-based driers that can be either in basic or neutral form are used in conjunction with other drying agents.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Calcium 10, 8, 6, 4 WS, D60
ProDry Calcium N 6, 5, 4 WS, D60
ProDry Barium Barium-based driers are auxiliary drying agents that enhance the performance of paint when used in conjunction with other drying agents.
Barium-based driers are auxiliary drying agents that enhance the performance of paint when used in conjunction with other drying agents. Barium-based driers that are especially effective in wetting and dispersion properties at low temperatures provide a minimum ‘loss of dry’ effect and also increase the gloss of the paint.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Barium 12.5, 10 WS, D60
ProDry Zinc Zinc-based drying agents are auxilary driers used to increase the hardness of the paint film.
Zinc-based drying agents are auxilary driers used to increase the hardness of the paint film. Zinc-based driers that help preventing wrinkles on the film surface, also have the propert of increasing the film gloss.
PRODUCT NAME SOLVENT TYPE
ProDry Zinc 16, 12, 10, 8 WS, D60
